History

First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School, opened its doors in September 2002 with temporary classrooms in the basement of a synagogue. In August of 2004, the school opened a new, state-of-the-art facility in its present location at 4300 Tacony Street. In 2009, the building was renovated to include more classrooms, a 700 seat theater space with a mezzanine level and a full stage with orchestra pit and a custom sound and lighting system.

After a successful charter renewal in 2012, First Philadelphia was granted more seats to expand enrollment. First Philadelphia increased its K-8 sections and admitted high school students for the first time.  In February of 2015, an additional building was added to the main campus.  This addition brought the entire K-12 together onto one campus.

Approximately 1900 students currently attend First Philadelphia.The Class of 2017 was the first to graduate from First Philadelphia’s High School.
